  Ashutosh beats coach Subrat to clinch PPM 10-Red snooker title

Odisha cuesports icon Ashutosh Padhy emerged champion in the 3rd Priyabrata Patnaik Memorial 10-Red Snooker Tournament, defeating his coach Subrat Das in the final by 5-2 frames (73-0, 48-6, 37-27, 3-53, 33-47, 44-18, 47-31) at the Bhubaneswar Club in Bhubaneswar today.

Earlier in the semifinals, Padhy beat Jagdish Mohanty 4-2, while Das defeated Rakesh Roshan Pradhan 4-3. Cuesports international Padhy won the tournament for the second time, while Subrat Das finished runner-up for the second successive time. Padhy received a cash prize of Rs 20,000, while runner-up Das pocketed Rs 10,000.

 

The five-day tournament, featuring around 40 cueists, was organized by Billiards & Snooker Association of Odisha (BSAO) in the memory of former bureaucrat and Bhubaneswar Club president Priyabrata Patnaik, whose 72nd birthday coincided with the final day of the tournament. The first two editions of the tournament were held in 2022 and 2023.

Bhubaneswar Club president Asit Tripathy, Club member and wife of Priyabrata Patnaik, Dr Lipsa Mishra, BSAO president Tara Ranjan Patnaik, secretary Sameer Ali and tournament director Govind Sharma handed over the trophies and prizes at the closing ceremony.

Losing semifinalists received Rs 5,000 each and losing quarterfinalists Rs 3,000 each. Nishant Biswal struck the highest break of the tournament with 62 points to take home a cash award of Rs 3,000.
