National-level tennis competition returned to Silk City Berhampur after a gap of seven years as Ganjam District Tennis Association (GDTA) organised the AITA-GDTA-OTA Super Series U16 Tournament, under the aegis of Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) and All India Tennis Association (AITA) at the clay courts of Union Club from 3 to 6 February 2025.
Interestingly, top-seeded Odisha players from Bhubaneswar, with almost identical names, reigned supreme in the four-day event, winning both the singles crowns. Aahaan Mishra emerged boys singles champion, defeating Fazal Ali Meer from Tamil Nadu in the final 6-4, 7-6(5).
The girls singles title was bagged by rising star Aahan, who outplayed West Bengal opponent Riya Roy 6-1, 6-4 in the summit clash. Champion and runner-up in both the categories earned 50 and 40 National ranking points respectively.
Trophies were handed over by Berhampur Superintendent of Police Dr Sravan Vivek. GDTA president Abdul Sattar, tournament secretary Uma Shankar Padhi, director Biswaranjan Patnaik and referee Jatin Batsya were present on the occasion.
