  Odisha karatekas win 11 Commonwealth medals

Odisha contributed 11 medals to the Indian tally in the 11th Commonwealth Karate Championship, which was held in Durban, South Africa on 28 and 29 November 2024. The 11 medals included four gold, two silver and five bronze. Fifteen out of 16 karatekas from Odisha won one or multiple medals for the country.

Suromita Sinha was most successful among Odisha competitors, bagging one gold each in individual and team events. India emerged overall champions, bagging a total of 50 medals, which featured 21 gold, 8 silver and 21 bronze. Odisha medal winners were congratulated by Odisha State Karate-Do Association.

 

ODISHA MEDAL WINNERS:

Gold: Alisha Subudhi, cadet female individual kata.
Gold: Valena Valentina, Suromita Sinha and Supriya Mohanty, senior female team kata.
Gold: Suromita Sinha, U-21 female individual kata.
Gold: Subhakanta Biswal, U-21 male 84+kg kumite.

Silver: Tamanna Meher, Ameishi Jha, Supriya Mohanty and Adyasha Priyadarshini Sahoo, junior female team kata.
Silver: Aryabrat Biswal, Surya Prakash Ghadei and Pulak Padhi, junior male team kata.

Bronze: Punit Kumar Mohanta, cadet male individual kata.
Bronze: Valena Valentina, senior female individual kata.
Bronze: Ritesh Ray, senior male 84+kg kumite.
Bronze: Bedant Das, U-21 male individual kata.
Bronze: Loma Swain, senior female -50kg kumite.
