Odisha para-badminton star Deep Ranjan Bisoyee added another feather to his cap by securing a bronze medal in the mens doubles SL3-SL4 category at the Spanish Para Badminton International Level-1 Tournament, held in Toledo, Spain from 12 to 16 March 2025.
Bisoyee clinched the bronze medal with Indian partner Manoj Sarkar by reaching semifinals by finishing second in Group-A league with one win and one loss. They beat Jagadesh Dilli and N Sivakumar (India) 14-21, 21-17, 21-15, but went down to Nitesh Kumar and Tarun Tarun (India) 16-21, 21-15, 12-21.
The top-seeded Bisoyee and Sarkar were favourites to win their semifinal clash against Indian opponents Umesh Vikram Kumar and Surya Kant Yadav on March 15. But an unfortunate injury to Sarkar in his singles quarterfinal match forced him to retire, leading to an automatic walkover in the doubles semifinals.
This was the second international doubles bronze medal within a week for Bisoyee and his Uttarakhand partner Sarkar, who secured the first one at the Spanish Para Badminton International Level-2 Tournament in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain earlier on March 8.
Bhubaneswar para-badminton international Bisoyee also reached mens singles SL4 quarterfinals, where he lost to Tarun Tarun 19-21, 21-10, 17-21.
