Senior BJP leader Samir Mohanty today became the new president of Odisha Olympic Association (OOA) while Avijit Paul retained his post as the general secretary. Office-bearers for all 22 posts were elected unopposed for a four-year term (2025 to 2029) after scrutiny of nominations today. However, the election results will be officially announced on March 30.
Former president of the BJP Odisha State Unit, Mohanty contested for the post of OOA president as a representative of Bhubaneswar Athletic Association. He was a student leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) before becoming a full-time politician. He unsuccessfully contested the Assembly election from Ekamra-Bhubaneswar seat in 2009.
