Women athletes won the first two medals for Odisha in the 2nd Khelo India Para Games 2025 today with sprinters Jayanti Behera and Janaki Oram bagging one gold and one silver respectively at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.

Jayanti, the most decorated para athlete of Odisha, secured the first medal for the state, winning the yellow metal in the women T-47 100m event with an impressive time of 13.71 seconds. Bhavani Valasamgari of Andhra Pradesh secured the silver, clocking 13.96 seconds, while Nishu from Punjab claimed the bronze with a time of 15.14 seconds.

This was the fourth gold medal of the year for 26-year-old international sprinter Jayanti, who garnered three gold medals at the 23rd National Para Athletics Championship last month at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

A native of Sakhigopal in Puri district, Jayanti also bagged three gold medals at the 1st Khelo India Para Games last year in New Delhi. She has the enviable reputation of capturing three gold medals each in nine successive National Para Athletics Championships.

Janaki Oram, who hails from Sambalpur district, secured the silver medal in women T-12 100m event, clocking 14.79 seconds. She was supported by guide runner Luku Badanayak. The gold and bronze medal in this event were captured by Sakshi Kale (Goa, 14.47 seconds) and Sudha Muska (Delhi, 15.20 seconds) respectively.

This was the second National medal for Janaki, who studies at the Rama Devi Womens University in Bhubaneswar. She secured one bronze medal at the 23rd National Para Athletics Championship in Chennai earlier this year on February 18.
