  National Para Athletics: Odisha finish ninth with 17 medals

Host Odisha finished ninth with a total of 17 medals, including eight on the third and last day of the 24th National Para Athletics Championship, which concluded today at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. The 17 medals featured five gold, nine silver and three bronze.

Haryana emerged as the overall champion with a staggering 95 medals, which included 39 gold, 31 silver and 25 bronze. Tamil Nadu claimed second place with 51 medals (14 gold, 20 silver, 17 bronze), while Gujarat secured the third position with 30 medals (14 gold, 11 silver, 5 bronze).

 

Odisha bagged eight medals on the third and final day. The eight medals consisted of two gold and six silver. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi graced the valedictory ceremony, where he presented awards to the winning national para athletes. The championship saw the participation of 1,460 para athletes, representing 28 states across the country.

The closing ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Sports and Youth Services Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj; former Sports Department Secretary, Sachin Ramachandra Jadhav; Paralympic Committee of India General Secretary, Jayawant G H; Para Athletics President, Satyanarayan; and Para Sports Association of Odisha Chairman, Kamalakanta Rath.

ODISHA MEDAL WINNERS ON THE FINAL DAY:

Gold: Suchitra Parida, womens F55 javelin throw, 17.80 metres.
Gold: Swastik Sahoo, mens T37 400m run, 56.34 seconds.

Silver: Janaki Oram, womens T12 long jump, 4.73 metres.
Silver: Janaki Oram, silver medal in womens T12 200m run, 28.43 seconds.
Silver: Jayanti Behera, womens T47 200m run, 27.95 seconds.
Silver: Swadhin Mahar, mens T47 long jump, 6.62 metres.
Silver: Swastik Sahoo, mens T37 200m run, 25.25 seconds.
Silver: Jadunath Majhi, mens T11 5000m run, 17 minutes 59.06 seconds.
