Trainee of Dhenkanal Sub-Centre of Odisha Weightlifting High Performance Centre, Bidusmita has the reputation of bagging gold medals with new record at the Commonwealth Championship last August in Ahmedabad. She also secured one gold, silver and bronze each, along with Best Lifter Trophy at the National Weightlifting Championship last month in Modinagar, UP.

The silver and bronze medals of the day for Odisha were claimed by Mina Santa (B) and Mina Singh respectively in womens 58kg weight class. Santa, a national medal winning trainee of Bhubaneswar-based Odisha Weightlifting HPC, lifted 73kg in snatch and 92kg in clean & jerk for a total of 165kg. Mina Singh, also a national medallist, who trains at Government Sports Hostel in Bhubaneswar, lifted 72kg in snatch, 89kg in clean & jerk and 161kg in total.

Weightlifters have fetched Odisha six medals, including two gold and two silver so far. Other 11 medals for Odisha, including four gold and seven bronze, have come from swimming. Odisha now occupy the second spot in the medals tally, while Karnataka lead the tally with 13 gold, five silver and one bronze for a total 19 medals.
