  FIH Hockey Womens Nations Cup: India emerge champions

India emerged champions in the 4th FIH Hockey Womens Nations Cup, defeating hosts New Zealand 2-0 in the final at National Hockey Centre in Auckland, New Zealand today. Navneet Kaur and Sunelita Toppo scored the two goals in the first quarter. India also qualified for the FIH Hockey Womens Pro League for the next season.

This was the second title triumph for Indian women who regained it after a gap of four years. India won their first title in the inaugural edition, held in Valencia, Spain in December 2022. The fourth edition featured eight highest ranked teams in the FIH Womens World Ranking not participating in the Womens FIH Pro League.

 

Hockey India announced a cash award of Rs 3 lakh for each player and Rs 1.5 lakh for each member of the support staff. Led by Salima Tete, the 22-member Indian womens team featured one player from Odisha (Sunelita Toppo).

INDIAN WOMEN TEAM: Goalkeepers: Bichu Devi Kharibam, Savita Punia. Defenders: Ishika Chaudhary, Jyoti Rumavat, Lalthantluangi, Nikki Pradhan, Shilpi Dabas, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam. Mid-fielders: Deepika Soreng, Lalremsiami, Neha Goel, Sakshi Rana, Salima Tete (Captain), Sonam, Sunelita Toppo. Forwards: Annu, Baljeet Kaur, Deepika Sehrawat, Hina Bano, Ishika Chaudhary, Navneet Kaur, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal. Chief Coach: Sjoerd Marijne.

15 June 2026 (Pool-A League): India (Deepika Sehrawat 17-PC, 24-PC, Navneet Kaur 28-PC) beat United States (Ashley Sessa 4-FG, Madeleine Zimmer 7-PC) 3-2. PoM: Deepika Sehrawat.

16 June 2026 (Pool-A League): India (Salima Tete 33-PC, Lalremsiami Hmar Zote 49-PC) beat Japan (Ai Hiramitsu 35-PC) 2-1. PoM: Salima Tete.

18 June 2026 (Pool-A League): India (Deepika Sehrawat 24-PC, 56-PC, Deepika Soreng 43-FG) beat Uruguay (Chiara Appennino 13-PC, Manuela Vilar 55-PC) 3-2.

20 June 2026 (Semifinal): India (Navneet Kaur 6-PC, 13-FG, Deepika Sehrawat 14-PC, 18-PC, Neha Goyal 32-PC, Rutuja Dadaso Pisal 39-FG) beat Chile 6-0. PoM: Salima Tete (India).

21 June 2026 (Final): India (Navneet Kaur 4-PC, Sunelita Toppo 15-PC) beat New Zealand 2-0. PoM: Lalremsiami (India).
