Odisha badminton ace Tanvi Patri achieved a notable success in the BWF International Series when she finished womens singles runner-up at the Austrian Open, which was held at Raiffeisen Sportpark in Graz, Austria from 21 to 24 May 2026. The 15-year-old Odisha girl won four matches in a row before losing to top seed Rachel Chan (Canada) in the final 14-21, 17-21 today.
On her way to the final, Tanvi beat eighth seed Ranithma Liyanage (Sri Lanka) 21-12, 21-9 in Round-32, Shan Zi OO (Malaysia) 21-10, 21-17 in pre-quarterfinals, second seed Ozge Bayrak (Turkey) 21-10, 21-18 in the quarterfinals and third seed Yu Wei Peng (Chinese Taipei) 21-10, 21-10 in the semifinals.
Austrian Open is classified as an International Series event, which is a Grade 3 circuit on the official BWF Tournament Calendar. Tanvi received a prize of 390 euros (Rs 43,400) as the womens singles runner-up.
