Aakash Mohapatra held his nerve in a nerve-shredding decider to lift the title in the 2nd GK All Odisha 6-Red Open Snooker Championship, defeating defending champion Asutosh Padhy 6-5 in the final at Golden Q Snooker Kafe, CDA, Cuttack today.

The summit clash lived up to every bit of its billing, going down to the wire as both cueists traded frames in a grueling 11-frame tactical masterclass before Mohapatra sealed the championship frame. The week-long tournament culminated with a glittering prize distribution ceremony hosted by Gyana Ranjan Behera, Director of GK Group of Companies and owner of the club.

Former state champion Mohapatra took home the top prize of Rs 25,000, while former Junior National champion Padhy received the runner-up prize of Rs 12,000. Padhy was also awarded Rs 5,000 for registering the tournament highest break of 54.

Emerging talent Aryan Pradhan was adjudged the Most Promising Player of the Tournament, taking home Rs 3,000. Losing semi-finalists Subrat Das and Rumit Gupta were given Rs 5,000 and losing quarter-finalists Siddharth Sen, Rakesh Roshan Pradhan, Anuj Kumar Panda and Chetan Anand Rs 2,500 each.

Around 50 cueists participated in the tournament, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 67,000. Billiards & Snooker Association of Odisha secretary Syed Sameer Ali was present at the closing ceremony.
