DESCRIPTION:
*     Khelo India University Games (KIUG) is intended to identify and train capable athletes in the age group of 18 to 25 years for the Olympics and the Asian Games.
*     The 2nd KIUG, which was set to be held in 2021, was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
*     More than 4500 athletes from across 189 universities in India are expected to take part in the second edition of the Games.
*     The 2nd KIUG will be conducted in 20 disciplines where a total of 257 gold medals will be awarded to the winners.
*     Two indigenous disciplines – Yogasana and Malkhamb _ have been added to the list of disciplines for the 2nd edition.
*     Other disciplines include – Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Fencing, Football, Field hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Shooting, Swimming, Table tennis, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Karate.

1ST KIUG IN ODISHA:
*     The 1st edition of KIUG, featuring 211 events in 17 disciplines, was held in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack from 22 February to 1 March 2020.
*     The venues were Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and SAI-Odisha Badminton Academy, Bhubaneswar, and JN Indoor Stadium, Cuttack.
*     More than 4000 athletes from 176 universities participated in the first edition.
*     The number of medals included 206 gold, 206 silver and 286 bronze.
*     Panjab University won the KIUG title in 2020, bagging a total of 46 medals, which included 17 gold, 19 silver and 10 bronze.
*     Savitribai Phule Pune University (17 gold+ 11 silver+ 9 bronz= 37 medals) and Punjab University, Patiala (13 gold+ 6 silver+ 14 bronze= 33 medals) finished second and third respectively.
