DESCRIPTION:
*     Approximately 1460 para athletes, representing 28 states, Border Security Force (BSF) and Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) will vie for a total of 145 medals.
*     A strong contingent of 40 para athletes from host Odisha will be led by Suchitra Parida, National record holder in womens F55 javelin throw.
*     Defending champions Haryana will field the largest contingent.
*     The previous National championship was held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
*     The 24th edition will feature Paralympc medallists, Arjuna Awardees, Asian Games medallists and World Championship medallists, including Maryappan Thangavelu, Sumit Antil, Navdeep Singh, Praveen Kumar, Preethi Pal, Shailesh Kumar, Rakeshbhai Bhatt, Rohit Kumar, Devendra Singh Gurjar, Poonam, Lakshmi, Jayanti Behera, Yogesh Kathuniya, Dharambir and Pranav Soorma.
*     Government of Odisha has extended maximum logistical and financial support in organising the championship, which will play a crucial role in selecting probables for the Asian Para Games, scheduled to be held Aichi-Nagoya in Japan from 18 to 24 October 2026, and other international competitions.
*     According to Satyanarayana, Chairman, Para Athletics, PCI, para sports in India have witnessed remarkable growth – from a single medal at the London 2012 Paralympics to an impressive haul of 29 medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympics.
