Local favourite Padmini Rout emerged champion in the State Women’s Chess Meet, which concluded in Bhubaneswar recently. Rout topped the table with full five points. The two-day championship was restricted to five rounds as only 20 competitors joined the fray. Smita Bhoi (Sambalpur) was runner-up with four points. Krushna Mishra (Balasore) and Aparajita Gochhikar (Puri) finished third and fourth respectively. The top four finishers qualified to represent the State in the Women’s National ‘B’ championship to be held at Hyderabad from May 21.
