Dhenkanal struck three goals in space of nine minutes to outplay Ganjam 3-1 in a pre-quarterfinal match of the Nalco Cup State Hockey Championship at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. Ganjam forged ahead when captain Dhaneswar Nayak sounded the opposition board early in the fifth minute. But a goal each by Ignatious Toppo (17th minute), Amit Lugun (20th) and Rajan Ekka (26th) helped Dhenkanal fight back to clinch the victory. Khurda obtained walk-over in another match of the day after Deogarh failed to turn up. Phulbani, Angul, Rourkela Steel Plant and Cuttack will meet Sambalpur, Balangir, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj respectively on Wednesday.
