Local boy Mrityunjay Abhijit Bhanja emerged champion in the State under-9 chess meet, which concluded here today. A standard three student of Delhi Public School, Kalinga, Bhanja topped the table with 5.5 points, which included five wins and a draw. With this victory, Bhanja qualified to represent Orissa in the National children chess championship to be held in Karnataka from October 12 to 19. This will be the fourth National meet for Bhanja, who has been making steady progress under the guidance of senior player and coach Swayangsu Satyakam.
