  Bhubaneswar swimmers corner glory

Host Bhubaneswar won the senior team title, scoring 75 points in the 49th State Swimming Championship, which concluded here at the Biju Patnaik Swimming Complex in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar today. Sambalpur finished runners-up with 65 points. But in junior and sub-junior categories, Sambalpur beat Bhubaneswar by 16 points (139-123) to take the team championship.

 

City college student Chintan Nayak bagged a double by emerging champion in men`s and boys` group-I (15 to 17 years), garnering 25 points each. The individual women`s title was claimed by Niharika Panda (Sambalpur), who pipped local school girls Aiswarya Mishra by one point (14-13). But Aiswarya stamped her supremacy in group-II (13 to 14 years), bagging the individual crown with 20 points. Boys` group-II title was shared by Sambalpur duo of Laxmi Suna and Manoj Bisi who tied with 16 points each. Other individual title winners included Amitav Banchhor (Boudh, 18 points) in boys` group-III (11 to 12 years), Niharika Patel (Sambalpur, 15 pts) in girls` group-III, Pranab Swarup Tripathy (Bhubaneswar, 14 pts) in boys` group-IV (9 to 10 years) and Dimple Raj Nayak (Bhubaneswar, 15 pts) in girls` group-IV.
