Odisha got off to a morale-boosting start in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament, gaining three points by virtue of taking a 24-run first-innings lead against Himachal Pradesh in their opening four-day match (Zone-A), which ended in a draw at KSCA Alur Silver Oval in Karnataka today.
Odisha took the lead by mustering 422, in reply to a first-innings total of 398 by Himachal Pradesh. After conceding the lead, Himachal Pradesh declared their second innings at 253 for eight and set an impossible target of 230 for Odisha to win the match out-right. Odisha were 89 for one when the match was accepted as a draw.
Subhranshu Senapati was the most successful performer for Odisha, scoring a majestic century (179 off 286 balls, 23x4, 3x6). Among other notable performers of the Odisha team, opening batsman Sandip Pattanaik garnered a match total of 105 runs, while Govind Poddar hit a half-century in the second innings.
Among Odisha bowlers, Deepak Behera was most successful, returning with a match haul of five wickets for 86 runs. He was followed by Suryakant Pradhan, who scalped four wickets, while captain Biplab Samantray, Basant Mohanty and Bikash Rout picked up three wickets each.
