Baroda beat Odisha by an innings and 22 runs on the penultimate day of four-day Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Group-C match at Vikash Ground in Bargarh today. The win fetched Baroda seven points, while Odisha drew blank. This was the second defeat in four matches for Odisha, who will next meet Punjab at Cuttack from December 12 to 15.
In reply to a healthy total of 355 by Baroda, Odisha folded up for 189 to concede a first-innings lead of 166 runs. Following on Odisha were bowled out for 144. Highlights of the Baroda innings was an unbeaten century by Shivalik Sharma and a half-century each by J K Singh and N A Rathva. Odisha pacer Preet Kanwar Singh Chohan claimed both the wickets to finish with an impressive haul of six wickets for 82 runs.
In reply, Odisha failed to give a fitting reply to the opposition and were all out for 189. The home team were 68 for five at one stage, but fought back to post a respectable total, thanks to a sparkling knock of 80 (147b, 12x4, 1x6) by Mrutyanjaya Sharma and his 89-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Girija Mishra, who scored 32 runs. Amrit Khatua was another Odisha batsman to make a notable contribution of 32.
Opener Swastik Samal with 44 runs was the top scorer for Odisha in the second innings. Dhruv Patel was most successful Baroda bowler, bagging five wickets for 44 runs.
