Yashdev, Prachi capture Sub-jr Natl recurve gold
19 Mar 2017 BHUBANESWAR

Services lad Yashdev and Jharkhand lass Prachi Singh stole the show on the second day of the 37th Sub-junior National Archery Championship, winning the gold medal in 60+60 metre recurve round here at Kalinga Stadium today.

A trainee of Pune-based Army Boys’ Sports Company, Yashdev emerged champion with total score of 673. The 16-year-old archer, who hails from Bagpat district in Uttar Pradesh, has been proving his mettle as a promising talent, winning as many as five national medals during the past two years.

A tall and unassuming teenager, Yashdev gave the credit of his latest achievement to coach Rajesh Tambolia. ``I have been inspired by archery Olympians of the country, including my coach Rajesh sir. I am working diligently to become an Olympian in the future,’’ said Yashdev, a Standard-XII student, who took to archery three years ago.

The silver and bronze medals in boys’ 60+60 metre event were claimed by Gaurav Lambe (Maharashtra) and B Dhiraj (Andhra Pradesh) respectively. Prachi grabbed the girls’ recurve gold with dominant performance that saw her finish with a total score of 652. Haryana’s Ridhi (632) settled with the silver medal, while the bronze went to Arvika Dutta (615) of Assam. Host Odisha, however, drew blank in the day.

RESULTS (Recurve):

1. Yashdev (Services, 673), 2. Gaurav Lambe (Maharashtra, 663), 3. B Dhiraj (AP, 661).
Girls 60+60m: 1. Prachi Singh (Jharkhand, 652), 2. Ridhi (Haryana, 632), 3. Arvika Dutta (Assam, 615).
