  World, Asia, India rugby oficials meet Odisha CM

The successful hosting of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships-2017 here at Kalinga Stadium has prompted national and international bodies of many more sports disciplines explore possibility of staging international meets at state capital Bhubaneswar. Obviously, they are seeking the help and support of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who, in recent times, showing immense love for sports.

Rugby India Board of Directors and Officials from World Rugby and Asia Rugby called on the Chief Minister at his residence today to discuss the road ahead for rugby in the state. According to sources Odisha Rugby Football Association (ORFA), the theme of discussion included staging of the Women’s Asian Rugby Championship and developing international-standard infrastructure for rugby in Bhubaneswar.

 

Of course, the response the rugby officials got from the Chief Minister is yet to be known. However, with Odisha dowing very well in rugby, winning national titles and hosting national tournaments on a regular basis, the road ahead for rugby in Odisha seems full of hopes.

Rugby officials who met the Chief Minister included: World Rugby’s Services Manager (Asia) Ridzal Saat from Singapore, Asia Rugby’s Get Into Rugby Coordinator, Benjamin Van Rooyen from South Africa, Rugby India and Rugby Asia Vice-president Aga Hussain, Rugby India Secretary General Mahesh Mathai , Rugby India Treasurer Saurav Chatterjee and ORFA President Priyadarshi Mishra.
