  Asian Amateur Chess: Aparajita wins bronze medal

Odisha Candidate Master Aparajita Gochhikar won the bronze medal in women’s category of the Asian Amateur Chess Championship at Chiang Mai in Thailand today. She scored seven points out of a possible nine, winning six games, drawing two and losing one.

Aparajita’s compatriot Sandhya Goli bagged the silver medal with 7.5 points, while the gold medal went to Cuizon Loreshyl of Philippines. Players from 23 countries participated in both Open and Women section of the Asian Amateur Championships.

Puri lass Aparajita, who is currently working in KIIT University as Manager-Administration, had secured one silver and one bronze in below 2000 rating category of the World Amateur Chess Championship last year at Halkidiki in Greece.
