Khatua hits 150* in drawn U-23 match vs UP
29 Oct 2017 BHUBANESWAR

Superb batting in both the innings by Amrit Khatua helped Odisha draw their four-day C K Nayudu Trophy Under-23 Plate Group-B match against Uttar Pradesh at Veer Surendra Sai Stadium in Sambalpur today. After conceding a first-innings lead of 233 runs, host Odisha were 368 for five in the second innings on the final day when the match came to an end.

Earlier in the first innings, Uttar Pradesh made 460, in reply to a modest total of 227 by Odisha. Uttar Pradesh, however, took home three points by virtue of taking first-innings lead, while Odisha settled with one point. Son of former Odisha allrounder Abinash Khatua, Amrit was the top-scorer for Odisha in both the innings, hitting 59 in the first and an unbeaten 150 (385 balls, 23x4) in the second. He foiled the opposition bid for an outright win with three substantial partnerships in the second essay.

Khatua compiled 107 runs for the opening wicket with with Rajesh Duper and followed it with 121 for the third wicket with Debasis Samantray and 98 for the fifth wicket with captain Devendra Kunwar. Dhuper, Samantray and Kunwar scored a half-century each in the second innings. Odisha now have three points from as many matches and will next meet Hyderabad at Hyderabad from November 3 to 6.
