Notwithstanding a half-century each by Biplab Samantaray and Prayas Singh, Odisha lost to Baroda by 57 runs in their fifth Group-A match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy Men’s One-day Tournament at Alur Cricket Stadium-III in Alur today. This was the third defeat for Odisha and they will play their sixth and last match against Haryana on Feb 16.

Chasing a stiff target of 318 against Baroda, Odisha were in deep trouble, losing five wickets for 87 runs. However, they fought back to make it a good contest thanks to a 100-ball 74 (6x4, 1x6) by Samantaray and a 47-ball 51 (2x4, 4x6) by Prayas. Deepak Behera and Suryakant Pradhan also made useful contributions of 31 and 23 respectively.

Earlier opting to bat, Baroda rode on a half-century each by K Pandya, Swapnil Singh and captain Deepak Hooda to make a healthy total of 317 for six. Abhishek Raut was most successful Odisha bowler, taking two wickets for 70 runs.
