  India crowned SAFF U-15 Women champions

India were crowned champions of the SAFF U-15 Championship after defeating defending champions Bangladesh by a solitary goal in the final at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimphu, Bhutan today.

Sunita Munda’s strike in the 67th minute made all the difference between the two teams. Priyanka Devi was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

India beat Nepal 2-1 to barge into the final. Earlier, India won both of their Group-A league matches to enter semifinals. India rode on a hattrick by captain Shilky Devi to demolish Sri Lanka 12-0 in their opening Group-A match.

 

In their second league game, India edged out host Bhutan 1-0 with Shilky Devi scoring the all-importang goal. Sarita Soreng of Odisha featured in the Indian starting line-up for the second match.

Surprisingly, All India Football Association (AIFF) did not disclose the list of players selected to represent the National U-15 women team. According to Football Association of Odisha, the India U-15 team features four players from Odisha. They are: Jyoti Kumari, Sangita Das, Manju Ganju and Sarita Soreng.

Team India for First Match: Manish (GK), Jyoti Kumari, Kavita, Ritu Devi, Naorem Devi, Th Kritina Devi, Jhanvi Shetty, Avika Singh, Lyndo Kom, Shilky Devi (Captain), Sunita Munda, Kiran, Anju. Head coach: Firmin D’Souza.

August 9:
India (Shilky Devi 1’,20’,44’; Lynda Kom 6’, Avika Singh 13’,58’; Sunita Munda 42’,79’; Kritina Devi 47’, Kiran 72’, Anju 87’,90’) beat Sri Lanka 12-0.
August 13: India (Shilky Devi 58’) beat Bhutan 1-0.
August 16 (SF): India (Lynda Kom 31’, Kritina Devi 58’) beat Nepal (Rajani Thokar 37’) 2-1.
August 18 (Final): India (Sunita Munda 67’) beat Bangladesh 1-0.
