Kartik Biswal and Pradipta Das scored a century each for Bhubaneswar-B and Cuttack-B respectively in their preliminary group league matches of the Kalahandi Cup Senior Men Inter-District Cricket Tournament at different grounds here today. Biswal hit an unbeaten 145 to power Bhubaneswar-B to a thumping 172-run win over Deogarh, while a solid 138 by Das saw Cuttack-B demolish Sonepur by 213 runs.
Bhubaneswar-B and Cuttack-B advanced to the super league, winning both of their preliminary league matches in group F and E respectively. Cuttack-A, Bhubaneswar-A, East Coast Railway and Balasore also reached super league with two wins apiece. Cuttack-A rode on a six-wicket haul by Abhishek Rout to beat Nuapada by seven wickets, while Birendra Singh scalped six wickets to help Balasore edge past Kendrapara by three runs.
Bhubaneswar-A and East Coast Railway faced some anxious moments before prevailing over Phulbani and Malkangiril by six and seven wickets respectively. Sundargarh beat Nayagarh by 75 runs and Jajpur got the better of Boudh by four wickets in two inconsequential league matches of the day.
