Odisha caused a major upset in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy Cricket Tournament, defeating host Delhi by nine runs in their fourth Elite Group-B match at Palam Stadium in New Delhi today. This was the first win after two defeats for Odisha, who now have six points in their account.
Opting to bat first, Odisha rode on a half-century each by captain Govinda Poddar (56, 81b, 5x4), Biplab Samantaray (63. 81b, 3x4, 1x6) and Subhranshu Senapati (59*, 50b, 3x4, 3x6) to muster a competitive total of 249 for four in 48 overs. In reply Delhi were bowled out for 140 in 48 overs. Deepak Behera and Pappu Roy picked up two wickets each for Odisha.
Among other successful Odisha players, opening batsman Rajesh Dhuper hit a 56-ball 44, while wicket-keeper Sujit Lenka held four catches. Odisha will next meet Madhya Pradesh at the same venue on September 28.
