Srirama Chandra Bhanja Medical College men and Madhu Sudan Law College women won the team titles in the Utkal University Inter-College Chess Tournament, which was held at M S Law College in Cuttack yesterday.

In the five-round men’s event SCB Medical College secured the top place with 16 points, while Samanta Chandra Sekhar Autonomous College, Puri finished as runners-up with 15.5 points. M S Law College won the women’s event with three points. Laxmi Narayan Mahavidyalaya, Jagatpur, Cuttack settled as runners-up with one point.

A total of 78 players from 17 colleges participated in the day-long event, which was inaugurated by Utkal University Sports Council Director Prof Kabir Mohan Sethi. MS Law College Principal Prof Sukanta Kumar Nanda handed over the prizes in the closing ceremony.
