  KISS crowned Unilight Cup Inter-School champs

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) retained the title in the Unilight Cup 29th Bhubaneswar Inter-School Football Tournament, defeating Sainik School 1-0 in the final here at Unit-VI High School Ground today. Jadunath Hansdah scored the all-important goal to be adjudged the Player of the Tournament. This was the fifth title triumph for KISS.

KISS boys Kuna Ram Soren and Dola Besra pocketed the individual prizes as Best Forward and Best Goalkeeper of the tournament respectively. The prizes for Best Defender and Best Mid-fielder were claimed by Sainik School duo Rabi Kumar and Shivam Raj respectively.

 

The tournament was organised by leading city football club Unit-VI Athletics Association with Unilight Reinsurance Brokers Private Limited as the title sponsor. Bhubaneswar Central MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty and Angul-Sukinda Railway CMD Dilip Samantaray handed over the trophy in the presence of Unit-VI Athletic Association president Tapan Mohanty, vice-president Prafulla Mishra and secretary Dillip Das.

Altogether 24 teams, including defending champions KISS participated in the tournament, which will featured a total of 31 matches. Sohan Danadapat (Mother’s Public School) Priyam Patnaik (DAV School, Pokhariput), Smruti Swagat Mohanty (BJEM School, BJB Nagar) and Jadunath Hansdah (KISS) registered the four hat-tricks of the tournament.

August 18 (Match No 1):
Mother’s Public School (Subhasish Choudhury 19’) beat DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur 1-0. Man of the Match: Sk Wasif Ali (MPS).
August 18 (Match No 2): DAV Public School, Unit-8 (Subham Samir, Sagar Barik) beat Future School 2-0. MoM: Subham Samir.
August 19 (Match No 3): Sri Aurovindo Bidyapith, Gandarpur (Debendra Samal 40’) drew with Kendriya Vidyalaya-II (Om Ashirbad Khuntia 43’) 1-1. MoM: Bikash Padhiari (Aurovindo).
August 20 (Match No 4): Capital High Schoo (Biswanath Birua, Sangram Majhi, Chandan Nayak, Raj Soren) beat BJEM School-2 4-0. MoM: Chandan Nayak.
August 20 (Match No 5): Mother’s Public School (Sohan Danadapat 4, Shekh Wasif Ali, Rishav Prusty, Yash Dev 1 each) beat St Xavier’s School, Khandagiri 6-0. MoM: Sohan Danadapat.
