  5-A-Side Sr NHC: Mixed luck fot Odisha teams

Hockey Odisha experienced mixed luck in the ongoing 3rd Hockey India 5-a-side Senior National Championships with the men’s team making it to the semifinals, but the women’s side bowing out in the quarterfinals at Field Marshal KM Kariappa Hockey Stadium in Bengaluru today.

Placed Pool B, Hockey Odisha men won one, lost one and drew one to reach quarterfinals, where they beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 2-0 in a shootout after a 4-4 draw in regulation time. Hockey Odisha will take on Hockey Karnataka in the first semifinal On September 23.

Hockey Odisha women reached the last-eight stage, winning two matches and losing one Pool-A league. But in the quarterfinals, they went down to Hockey Jharkhand 1-3 in penalty shootout after the scores were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time.

Altogether eight states, including Hockey Odisha, are participating in this championship, which also features in and mixed event. Nilam Sanjeep Xess and Rashmita Minz are leading the Odisha men and women teams respectively.

Hockey Odisha (Ashis Topno 5’,10’; Nitin Mukesh Tigga 9’, Tikei Kujur 14’, Nilam Sanjeep Xess 19’) beat Hockey Maharashtra 5-3.
Sept 19: Hockey Odisha (Ashis Topno 13’, Teophil Kujur 14’) drew with Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 2-2.
Sept 20: Hockey Haryana (Bharat 3`,16`,17`; Gagandeep Singh 5`, Pardeep Mor 7`, Manpreet 11`, Shivdeep 18`) beat Hockey Odisha (Tikei Kujur 3`, Teophil Kujur 6`, 10`) 7-3.
Sept 21 (QF): Hockey Odisha (Teophil Kujur 2`,6`; Krishna Tirkey 18`, Nitin Mukesh Tigga 20`) beat Uttar Pradesh Hockey 2-0 in a shootout after a 4-4 draw in regulation time. Teophil Kujur and Prakash Barla converted in shootout.

Hockey Odisha (Elima Minz 2’,4’; Mariana Kujur 3’,11’; Ajmina Kujur 9’,  Rashmita Minz 13’) beat Hockey Punjab 6-3.
Sept 19: Hockey Odisha (Mariana Kujur 2’,10’,17’; Elima Minz 6’,11’; Priyanka Ekka 7’,20’; Manju Lakra 9’, Asmita Barla 15’) beat Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu 9-1.
Sept 20: Hockey Haryana (Amandeep Kaur 5', Sarita 9', Pooja 10', Sonika 14', Manpreet Kaur 18’) beat Hockey Odisha (Ajmina Kujur 2’, Mariana Kujur 16’) 5-2.
Sept 21 (QF): Hockey Jharkhand (Pramila Soreng 7’) beat Hockey Odisha (Mariana Kujur 3’) 3-1 in penalty shootout after the scores were tied 1-1 at the end of regulation time. Mariana Kujur scored Hockey Odisha’s only goal in the shootout.
