Maiden First-Class century by opening batsman Anurag Sarangi helped hosts Odisha make 232 for six on the opening day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match against Haryana here at KIIT Cricket Stadium today. Shantanu Mishra and Debabrata Pradhan were batting on 30 and seven respectively when stumps were drawn for the day.

Left-hander Sarangi hit a 190-ball 114, which was studded with 17 boundaries and two sixes. Opting to bat after winning the toss, Odisha got off to a decent start with Sarangi and Sandeep Pattnaik compiling 63 runs for the opening wicket. But after the departure of Pattnaik, Odisha lost wickets in regular intervals. However, the brave knock by Sarangi enabled the home team stay on course for a sizeable first-inning total.

Captain Mohit Sharma and H Patel picked up two wickets each for Haryana. Pace bowlers Debabrata Pradhan, Rajesh Mohanty and left-arm spinner Pappu Roy made their first-class debut for Odisha today.
