  Maitree wins maiden CS singles tennis title

Odisha girl Maitree Diksha Rout and West Bengal boy Vayam Krishna won the singles titles in the Gurukul AITA-OTA Championship Series U-14 Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Gurukul Resort Tennis Complex, Mendhasal, near Bhubaneswar today.

In the boys singles final, top seed Vayam Krishna defeated Debabrata Pradhan of Odisha 6-2, 6-3. Unseeded Maitree Diksha Rout emerged girls singles champion, upsetting statemate Alina Sayed in the final 6-1, 6-0.

The U-14 boys doubles title was captured by Odisha duo of Stevan Ankit Ekka and Debabrata Pradhan. They defeated another Odisha pair _ Kaamlesh Rath and Pranesh Sahoo in the final 5-4(2), 4-1. The winners and runner-up gained 15 and 10 AITA ranking points respectively.

A total of 31 players from West Bengal, Jharkhand and host Odisha participated in the three-day tournament, which was organised by Gurukul Tennis Academy (GTA), under the aegis of Odisha Tennis Association (OTA).

Tournament Director Pradeep Pradhan gave away the trophies at the closing ceremony. Tournament referee Jatin Batsya, GTA director Santosh Mallik and OTA manager Prakash Pattnaik were present on the occasion.
