Sovna Sonali Jena 0f Cuttack and local boy Sankalp Baliarsingh emerged champions in the State under-7 chess tournament, which concluded here at the Secretariat Recreation Club on Monday. The two-day championship, featuring 19 boys and seven girls was conducted by Orissa State Chess Association. Sovna scored 4.5 points from five rounds to clinch the title, ahead of local girl Rutumbara Bidhar, who finished runner-up with four points. In the boys` section, Sankalp topped the table with full five points, one point ahead of runner-up Nisith Mohanty (Cuttack). Top two finishers in each section qualified to represent Orissa in National under-7 championship to be held later this year.
