Match haul of nine wickets for 89 runs by Binit Kumar Mohanty and a second-innings century century by skipper Swastik Samal enabled hosts Odisha script a thrilling five-run win over Assam on the penultimate day of their four-day Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Elite Group-C match at BOSE Ground here today.
The win, their third in six matches, fetched Odisha six points and elevated them to the third position in the group table with 21 points. Odisha will play their seventh and last league match against Jammu & Kashmir at Jammu from January 21 to 24.
The win against Assam assumed added significance as Odisha achieved it after conceding a first-innings lead of 113 runs. Opting to bat, the hosts were bowled out for 127. In reply, Assam compiled 240. But Odisha put up much better performance in the second innings as they mustered a total of 230 and set a challenging target of 118 for Assam to win the match. But the visitors were bundled out 112 in the second innings to lose the match with a day to spare.
Allrounder Binit Mohanty took four wickets in the first innings and five in the second. Skipper Samal slammed 121 in the second innings with the help of 17 boundaries and one six. Anil Parida was another successful batsman for Odisha, scoring 50 runs in the first innings. Among other successful Odisha bowlers, Ankitkar Jaiswal bagged seven wickets in the match.
