  FIH Men Series Finals: Japan, USA post 2nd wins

Asian Games gold medalists Japan and fancied United States of America (USA) registered back-to-back wins to get closer to the semifinal of the FIH Mens Series Finals here at Kalinga Stadium Hockey Complex today.

Japan (World Rank 18) upset South Africa (WR 16) 2-0, while USA (WR-25) made mincemeat of Mexico (WR-39) 9-0 in respective second pool league matches of the day.

The game between USA and Japan on 10 June will determine top place in Pool-B. In the absence of USA captain Ajai Dhadwal, the team in the match against Mexico was led by Tyler Sundeen and the new captain did a good job, scoring one goal.

 

However, Sean Cicchi proved to be the star of the USA win, scoring two goals. He was adjudged the man of the match, which fetched him a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

South Africa suffered their second successive defeat by losing to Japan. Kentaro Fukuda and Kazuma Murata scored the two goals in the Japan win over South Africa. However, Kenta Tanaka was declared the Man of the Match.

8 June (Match 7):

8 June (Match 8): USA (Michael Barminski 3’,53’, Julian Croonenberghs 14’, Tyler Sundeen 30’, Sean Cicchi 30’,52’, Alberto Montilla 39’, Christian De Angelis 42’, William Holt 60’ ) beat Mexico 9-0. MoM: Sean Cicchi.
