  Khurda, Panposh Sports Hostel emerge joint state champs

Panposh Sports Hostel and Khurda district were declared joint-winners of the Odisha State Hockey Championship after the final match between the two sides at Panposh Sports Hostel Stadium in Rourkela was abandoned due to heavy rain.

The championship was organised by Hockey Odisha with the support of District Hockey Association from August 9, 2019. Altogether eight teams participated in the championship.

arlier in the semifinals, Panposh Sports Hostel thrashed Odisha Police 6-1, while Khurda prevailed over Sundargarh 3-1 in shootout, which was applied after play in regulation time ended in goalless draw.
 

Hockey Odisha secretary Pratap Satpathy was present at the closing ceremony. Earlier, Rourkela Additional District Magistrate Dr Yeddula Vijay inaugurated the championship in the presence of Hockey Odisha Joint-secretary Pranab Kishor Pattanaik.

RESULTS:

August 9: Match 1: Sundargarh beat Dhenkanal 16-0. Match 2: Odisha Police beat Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) 11-0. Match 3: Khurda beat SAI Training Centre 3-2. Match 4: Panposh Sports Hostel beat Sambalpur 18-0.
August 10: Match 5: Panposh Sports Hostel beat Sundargarh 6-2. Match 6: Khurda beat KISS, Bhubaneswar 15-0. Match 7: Sambalpur beat Dhenkanal 11-0. Match 8: Odisha Police beat SAI, Sundargarh 2-1.
August 11: Match 9: SAI, Sundargarh beat KISS, Bhubaneswar 5-1. Match 10: Khurda beat Odisha Police 3-1. Match 11: Sundarghar beat Sambalpur 9-1. Match 12: Panposh Sports Hostel beat Dhenkanal 11-0.
August 12: Match 13 (SF): Khurda beat Sundargarh 3-1 in shoot out (Full time 0-0). Match 14 (SF): Panposh Sports Hostel beat Odisha Police 6-1. Match 15: Final (Match abandoned due to heavy rain).
