  Harshit crowned KTMAOS chess champion

Harshit Ranjan Sahu of Stewart School, Cuttack won the title in the 2nd Kulamani Tripathy Memorial All Odisha School Chess Championship (KTMAOSC), which was organised by S R Chess Centre (SRCC), under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) at East Coast Railway Institute in Cuttack from 1 to 3 September, 2019.

Harshit scored 7.5 points from eight roundes to take home the top prize of Rs 5,000. His schoolmate Sriansh Das (7 points) and St Joseph Girls High School (Cuttack) student Palak Mohapatra (7 points) claimed the second and third prize of Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively.

 

Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena, Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani, AOCA president Debasish Samantray, SCB Medical College Assistant Professor Soumya Darshan Naik and Orisports.com editor Sanatan Pani handed over the trophies and cash prizes at the closing function.

SRCC president Subhasis Patnaik, director Satya Ranjan Patnaik, Kulamani Tripathy Foundation chairman Raj Narayan Tripathy and tournament arbiter Tapas Mohanty were present on the occasion. Altogether 218 players from 12 districts participated in the championship, which was earlier inaugurated by chess International Master Padmini Rout.

International woman athlete Parbati Sethi was present in the opening ceremony as guest. Senior sports journalist Tapan Kumar Swain, photo journalist Raj Kishore Mohanty and Physical Education Teacher Dr Saroj Kumar Brahma were felicitated on the occasion.
