  SAG: Jabamani caps Indian win over Maldives

Indian women football team, the defending champions, began their South Asian Games campaign with a comfortable 5-0 win over the Maldives at the Pokhara Stadium in Nepal today. Odisha defender Jabamani Tudu headed home the last goal for India.

Among other scorers, Bala Devi grabbed a brace, while Dangmei Grace and Manisha netted one goal apiece to hand India three points. India will next meet Sri Lanka on December 5 and Nepal on December 7. The final will take place on December 9.

Womens football has been included in two previous editions of the South Asian Games (2010 and 2016), and India had come up with winning the gold medal on both occasions.

INDIAN WOMEN TEAM:
Goalkeepers:
Aditi Chauhan, E Panthoi Chanu, M Linthoinganbi Devi.
Defenders: Roja Devi, Jabamani Tudu, Ashalata Devi, Michele Castanha, Sweety Devi, W Linthoinganbi Devi.
Midfielders: Bala Devi, Ratanbala Devi, Ritu Rani, Sangita Basfore, Sumithra Kamaraj.
Forwards: Anju Tamang, Dangmei Grace, Daya Devi, Manisha, Ranjana Chanu, Sandhiya Ranganathan.
Head Coach: Maymol Rocky

RESULTS:
December 3:
India (Dangmei Grace 5’, Bala Devi 25’, 33’, Manisha 87’, Jabamani Tudu 88’) beat Maldives 5-0.
