  SAG Women Football: India achieve title hat-trick

The Indian Womens Football Team achieved a hat-trick by winning third consecutive gold medal at the South Asian Games after beating hosts Nepal 2-0 in the summit clash at Pokhara Stadium in Pokhara today.

Bala Devi was the star of the final as she netted both the goals. The 29-year-old striker also ended as the top-scorer of the tournament, netting five goals in four matches. Odisha defender Jabamani Tudu was part of the 20-member Indian team. She also scored a goal against Maldives.


Womens football has been included in two previous editions of the South Asian Games (2010 and 2016), and India had come up with winning the gold medal on both occasions.

INDIAN WOMEN TEAM: Goalkeepers: Aditi Chauhan, E Panthoi Chanu, M Linthoinganbi Devi. Defenders: Roja Devi, Jabamani Tudu, Ashalata Devi, Michele Castanha, Sweety Devi, W Linthoinganbi Devi. Midfielders: Bala Devi, Ratanbala Devi, Ritu Rani, Sangita Basfore, Sumithra Kamaraj. Forwards: Anju Tamang, Dangmei Grace, Daya Devi, Manisha, Ranjana Chanu, Sandhiya Ranganathan. Head Coach: Maymol Rocky.


December 3:
India (Dangmei Grace 5’, Bala Devi 25’, 33’, Manisha 87’, Jabamani Tudu 88’) beat Maldives 5-0.
December 5: India (Dangmei Grace 7’, Sandhiya R 10’, 25’, Ratanbala Devi 18’, 88’, Bala Devi 90+1’) beat Sri Lanka 6-0.
December 7: India (Bala Devi 18’) beat Nepal 1-0.
December 9 (Final): India (Bala Devi 18’, 56’) beat Nepal 2-0.
