Responsible knock of 64 by allrounder Govinda Poddar went in vain as Odisha lost to Haryana by four wickets in their Elite Group-B match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy Senior Men One-day League at SGSA Cricket Ground in Vadodara today.
The match was reduced to 46 overs due to wet outfield. Riding on the 95-ball knock of Poddar, Odisha compiled a competitive total of 207 for nine after choosing to bat. Among other notable scorers, opener Sandeep Pattnaik contributed 44 and wicket-keeper Sujit Lenka remained unbeaten on 34.
In reply, Haryana overhauled the target in 43.5 overs, losing six wickets in the process. Jayant Yadav and Sumit Kumar hit a half-century each for the winners. The duo took the match away from Odisha, stitching together 128 runs in their sixth wicket stand.
Among successful Odisha bowlers, Rajesh Mohanty and Deepak Behera picked up two wickets each. Odisha opening batsman Swastik Samal made his List-A debut in this game. This was the first defeat in two matches for Odisha, who earlier beat Himachal Pradesh by three runs.
