  Dutee, Amiya clinch double crown for Odisha

Sprinters Dutee Chand and Amiya Kumar Mallick clinched a double crown for Odisha, winning the women and men 100m titles respectively in the 59th Natlional Open Athletics Championships at Birsa Munda Athletics Stadium in Ranchi on October 11.

It was double delight for Dutee as the indomitable sprinter created New National Record in the semifinals with a timing of 11.22 seconds and then went on to win the title, clocking 11.25 seconds in the final.

Dutee bettered her own National Record of 11.26 seconds, which she had achieved at the Asian Championships in Doha on 22 April, 2019. She also erased Meet Record of 11.43 seconds, achievd by Saraswati Saha at New Delhi in 2002.

 

Dutee went on to clinch a personal double, adding the 200m gold to the the 100m one on October 13. Her gold winning time in 200m was 23.17 seconds.

The mens 100 meters final was a close affair with national record holder Amiya Kumar Mallick winning in a season best time of 10.46 seconds. Bhubaneswar sprinter Amiya had set the National Record of 10.26 seconds in New Delhi on 28 April, 2016.

Odisha, in fact, bagged a treble of sorts with Jauna Murmu, another international athlete of the state, bagging gold medal in women 400m hurdles for her employers, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) with a timing of 58.08 seconds.
