  Nishit, Adyasha make it a double for Cuttack

Cuttack asserted its supremacy in the State Under-9 Chess Championship with Nishit Mohanty and Adyasha Patnaik winning the boys` and girls` titles respectively at the Secretariat Recreation Club here on Wednesday. In the six-round tournament, Nishit topped the table with 5.5 points, half a point ahead of Jajpur boy Rakesh Kumar Jena, who finished runner-up. In the girls` title race, Adyasha edged out local challenger Sribinda Rout by virtue of higher progressive score after both players tied with five points apiece.

 

State Bank of India AGM Achyutananda Parida gave away the prizes at the closing function. According to Orissa State Chess Association officials, top two finishers in each category qualified to represent the State in the National under-9 championship to he held at New Delhi from April 28.

  Final standings: Girls (Top 5): 1. Adyasha Patnaik (5), 2. Sribinda Rout (5), 3. Pooja Senapati (4), 4. Swapna Sonali Jena (4), 5. Suvangi Mishra (3.5). Boys (Top 10): 1. Nishit Mohanty (5.5), 2. Rakesh Kumar Jena (5), 3. Hara Prasad Chatterjee (5), 4. Soumen Amlan (4.5), 5. Arvind Samal (4.5), 6. Mohammad Mahatab (4), 7. Mohammad Hussain (4), 8. Sibasish Mohapatra (4), 9. Smruti Sekhar Behera (4), 10. Bhakta Kishore Behera (4).
