  Khelo India Youth Games: Weightlifters win 5 medals

Odisha weightlifters achieved notable success in the 3rd Khelo India Youth Games, garnering a total of five medals at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Hall in Guwahati between 17 and 19 January, 2020. The four medals had one gold, two silver and two bronze.

Kuldeep Sahu won the gold in U-17 boys 67kg category on January 18. He lifted 103 kg in snatch and 135 kg in clean & jerk for a total of 238 kg. The two silver medals were bagged by Muna Nayak and Manoja Kumar Sahu.

Muna Nayak won silver medal in U-21 boys 55 kg category at Bhogeshwari Phuknani Indoor, Dispur, Assam on January 17. He lifted 102kg in snatch and 133kg in clean & jerk for a total of 235kg.

 

This was the second second Khelo India Youth Games for Nayak, who hails from Berhampur. He had also secured silver medal in the same weight and age category last year in Pune.

Nayak started his career at State Government Sports Hostel in Berhampur, under the tutelage of Sita Jena. Later he honed his skills at Army Sports Institute in Pune.

Manoja Sahu secured silver in U-21 boys 73kg class with a total lift of 264 kg on January 19. He lifted 111 kg in snatch and 153 kg in clean & jerk. One of the two bronze medals was picked up Moti Jani in U-21 girls 55kg category on January 18. She lifted 66 kg in snatch and 92 kg in clean & jerk for a total of 158 kg.

Banita Ghadei won the other bronze medal in U-21 women 87 kg class. She lifted 72 kg in snatch and 86 kg in clean & jerk for a total of 158 kg on January 22.
