  Utkal Open double crown for Kabir Hans

Odisha No 1 Kabir Hans clinched a double crown by winning both the mens singles and doubles titles in the 7th All Odisha Utkal Open Tennis Tournament which was held here at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex from 24 to 26 January 2020.

Diksha M Rout emerged womens singles champion, while the U-12 boys singles title was pocketed by Aniket Sahoo. The mens singles, doubles and womens singles title winners received cash prizes of Rs 10,000 each. The runners-up in men’s singles and doubles were given Rs 6,000 each, while the losing finalist in womens singles became richer by Rs 5,000.

Utkal Open also coincided with an AITA Championship Series Tournament for U-14 boys and girls. Lalit Tudu and Sohini S Mohanty (both Odisha) won the boys and girls singles title respectively in this event.
 

Both the Utkal Open and AITA Championship Series tournaments were simultaneously organised by Ace Tennis Club. The three-day tournament, featuring eight events, carried a total prize fund of Rs 1.60 lakh. However, results of mens veteran 40-plus, 50-plus and 60-plus doubles events were not disclosed.

Saswat Mishra, Secretary, Higher Education Department handed over the trophies in the presence of Forest and Environment Department Special Secretary Debidutta Biswal, Utkal Builders Director Rakesh Bhurra and Organising Secretary Dr Biswajit Mishra.

RESULTS (All finals):

UTKAL OPEN: Mens singles: Kabir Hans beat Kumar Anurag Saran 6-2, 6-0. Mens doubles: Kabir Hans-Ajay Nishank beat Aditya Satpathy-Kumar Anurag Saran 5-7, 7-5, 10-4. Womens singles: Diksha M Rout beat Nemha Sarah Kispotta 6-4, 6-1. U-12 Boys singles: Aniket Sahoo beat Aditya Bikram Acharya 6-1, 6-4.

AITA CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES: U-14 Boys singles: Lalit Tudu beat Stevan Ankit Ekka 6-1, 6-1. U-14 Girls singles: Sohini S Mohanty beat Aahan 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
