  Tirkey felicitates bodybuilder Jena
25 Jul 2008

Kartikeswar Jena was today felicitated by Utkal Karate School for finishing sixth in the 75kg Master (45 to 55 years) category of the 42nd Asian Bodybuilding Championship held at Hong Kong from July 16 to 21. Former India hockey captain Dilip Tirkey greeted the 50-year-old Bhubaneswar bodybuilder with a bouquet in a function at the school premises. It was dream-comes-true for Jena, who had been missing his international debut for the past four years due to financial constraints. Earlier Jena missed international participation in powerlifting and arm-wrestling as well. Olympian Tirkey wished Jena would be successful in representing India in powerlifting, arm-wrestling and win medals in all three disciplines in the future.

According to Indian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation secretary G S Nayak, the National squad bagged a gold and a bronze in the Hong Kong championship with Ravi Kumar winning the Junior Mister Asia title in below 60kg class and Daljit Singh finishing third in men``s open category. Orissa``s Suresh Kumar Panda and Kishore Kumar successfully passed in the Asian judges`` test, which was conducted simultaneously at Hong Kong. The 43rd Asian men``s bodybuilding championship was allotted to Iran.
