  Debasish, Dibyadarshini selected for SS-ME Awards

Top-order batsman Debasish Samantray and allrounder Sushree Dibyadarshini Pradhan have been selected for Saheed Sporting-Maruti Estate (SS-ME) Cricketer of Year Awards for the year 2019-20. This was announced by Saheed Sporting Club secretary Pankaj Patnaik today.

A regular member of Odisha State Senior Team, Samantray will be conferred with the 28th SS-ME Male Cricketer of the Year Award. On the other hand, Dibyadarshini, a member of Emerging India Team, will be bestowed with the 7th SS-ME Female Cricketer of the Year Award.

The prestigious awards carry a purse of Rs 31,000 each along with trophy, citation and blazer. The awards will be presented in a special function, the date of which will be announced later.

The awardees were selected by jury committee, comprising of sports journalists Sanatan Pani, Susant Mohanty, Sambit Mohapatra, Suresh Swain, Sanjib Biswal, Samikhya Patnaik, Tapan Swain, Himanshu Patimishra, Niranjan Reddy, Umakant Mishra, Samir Rout, Shakti Prasad Nanda, Maruti Estate India (P) Limited Managing Director Jitendra Pratap Singh and Saheed Sporting secretary Pankaj Patnaik.

 

Bhubaneswar-based Samantray scored 535 runs, including two hundreds, two fifties in eight Ranji Trophy matches he played last season. Dibyadarshini compiled 204 runs and bagged 16 wickets in eight one-day matches she played for Odisha Senior Women Team.

Bhubaneswar girl Dibyadarshini also represented India B in Women T20 Challenge Trophy, Emerging India in Emerging Asia Cup with modest success. This will be the second SS-ME Award for Dibyadarshini, who also bagged it for the season 2017-18.

Saheed Sporting-Maruti Estate Cricketer of Year Award, oldest of its kind in Odisha, was instituted in the year 1992-93. The Woman Cricketer of the Year Award was added in the year 2013-14.
