  Rising Student emerge Odisha Women League champs

Rising Student Club emerged champion in the Odisha Women League (OWL), edging out East Coast Railway on goal difference after completion of 30 matches today. In the last two matches, East Coast Railway beat Odisha Sports Hostel 3-1, while Rising Student got the better of SAi Training Centre 3-0.

Jasoda Munda capped the Rising Student title triumph in style, achieving a hat-trick against the SAI team. Being the OWL champions, Rising Student qualified for the Indian Women League (IWL), scheduled to be held in Odisha next month. Both Rising Student and East Coast Railway tied for the title with 27 points each from 10 games.

 

Both won nine matches and lost one each. However, with a goal difference of 21 (28 for and 7 against) Rising Students were declared champions. East Coast Railway finished runners-up with a goal difference of 20 (25 for, 5 against). Odisha Sports Hostel secured third position with 16 points.

Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Sports & Youth Service Department, Govt of Odisha, graced the closing ceremony as the chief guest and handed over the trophy. OWL was organised by Football Association of Odisha (FAO) in association with Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), Government Odisha (DSYS) at two venues in Bhubaneswar from February 28.

R Vineel Krishna, Special Secretary, CMO & DSYS Director graced the opening ceremony as chief guest. Also present on the occasion were FAO secretary Asirbad Behera, vice-presidents Bijay Das, Dillip Kumar Sahoo, Hrudaya Ranjan Behera; treasurer Bhakta Ballav Das, joint-secretary Avijit Paul), U-15 National Team head coach Shuvendu Panda and DSYS OSD Sumit Pandey.
