Ex-Orissa Ranji captain set to play for Assam
29 Jul 2008

Orissa Ranji teams`` former captain and leading middle-order batsman Rashmi Ranjan Parida is all set to play for Assam in the coming season. After making his first class debut in 1994-95, Parida quickly established himself as a prolific scorer, demostrating style, grace and consistency. His first class career statistics so far read 88 matches, 143 innings, 16 not outs, 5,830 runs, average 45.90, highest score 220, 13 hundreds, 33 fifties and 84 catches. In 50 one-day matches (45 innings), he has accumulated 1,439 runs including one century (106 not out) and 10 fifties. Also known as Teddy, Parida led Orissa for three seasons in Ranji Trophy championship before he was replaced in a strange manner by Sanjay Raul. Under Parida``s captaincy Orissa won the East Zone one-day tournament for the first time.

Parida admitted that he had changed his allegiance and cited "better offer" from Assam Cricket Association as the reason. He, however, declined to comment on the alleged ill-treatment by Orissa Cricket Association. Parida disclosed that he would make his debut for Assam at the Moin-ud-dowla Cup Tournament starting at Hyderabad on August 3. His followers believe that 31-year-old Parida is good enough to play first class cricket for a couple of years at the least.
