  Odisha Red emerge OWCL T20 champions

Odisha Red emerged champions in the MGM Odisha Women T20 Cricket League (OWCL), defeating Odisha Violet by six wickets in the final at KIIT Cricket Ground in Bhubaneswar today. Captain Madhuri Meheta led the Reds to victory, hitting a 40-ball 54.

Former India opener Madhuri was not only adjudged the woman of the final match, but also the Player of tthe Tournament. She was most prolific scorer in the tournament, accumulating a total of 328 runs in nine innings with an average of 65.60.

Odisha Purple finished third in the tournament, beating Odisha Green by 26 runs earlier in the day. Purple captain Madhusmita Behera was the star performer of the match, hitting a 51-ball 44 and capturing three wickets for 15 runs. She pocketed the prize as the woman of the match.

 

Odisha Cricket Association president Pankaj Lochan Mohanty, secretary Sanjay Behera, joint-secretary Mehetab Khan, Odisha Olympic Association vice-presidents Dulal Chandra Pradhan, Kishore Kumar Biswal and KIIT Sports Director Dr Gaganendu Dash handed the trophy and prizes at the presentation ceremony.

Odisha Violet bowler Kalpana Nayak claimed the prize as the Emerging Player of the Tournament for bagging a total of 13 wickets in nine games at an average of 11.92. Odisha Purple batter Sarita Meher finished as the highest scorer of the League with a total of 362 runs in nine matches.

Match 22 (Final): Odisha Violet 124/5 in 20 overs (Rasmita Chinhara 52*, Sushree Dibyadarshini 29, Sweet Beura 23; Tanmayee Behera 1/9) lost to Odisha Red 126/4 in 19.5 overs (Madhuri Meheta 54, Tanmayee Behera 21; Sushree Dibyadarshini 1/22) by 6 wickets. WoM: Madhuri Meheta.
