Indian Women Hockey Team suffered third successive defeat in the Tokyo Olympics as they were trouned 4-1 by defending champions and World No 5 Great Britain in their third Pool A match at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo today. Indian women earlier lost to Netherlands 1-5 and to Germany 0-2.

Hannah Martin (2-FG, 19-FG) scored a brace, while Lily Owsley (41-PC) and Grace Balsdon (57-PS) contributed one goal in the Great Britain win. The only goal for India was scored by Sharmila Devi (23-PC).

The defeat today put the hopes for a quarterfinal berth in jeopardy for the Indian team. In their 4th Pool A match, India will take on Ireland on July 30.

While the women hockey team continued disappoint, woman shuttler PV Sindhu, archer Deepika Kumari and boxer Pooja Rani kept the second medal hope alive for India with impressive performance today.

Sindhu beat Cheung Ngan Yi of Hong Kong 21-9, 21-16 in her second league match to advance to the singles pre-quarterfinals, where she will meet Mia Blichfeldt of Denmark tomorrow.

In individual archery, Deepika registered second win to reach pre-quarterfinals. She beat Jennifer Mucino-Fernandez of the USA 6-4. Boxer Pooja Rani started her campaign in middleweight category on winning note, drubbing Chaib of Algeria 5-0 in the second round. She will next meet Li Qian of China in the quarterfinals on July 31.
