  Football: Indian women lose friendlies in Uzbekistan

Senior India women football team, featuring two players from Odisha, ended its Uzbekistan tour today, losing both of their frindlies by narrow margin. They lost to host Uzbekistan 0-1 on April 5 and to Belarus 1-2 on April 8. Both friendlies were played at the AGMK Stadium in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

In the first match, the all-important goal for Uzbekistan was scored by Maftuna Shoyimova in the 87th minute. In the second game, Belarus led 2-0 before Sangita Basfore (90+4) pulled one back for India. Shuppo Nastassia (66th-P) and Pilipenka Hanna (76th) netted the two goals for Belarus.

 

Odisha defender Jabamani Tudu and mid-fielder Pyari Xaxa were members of the Indian team. Both the Odisha players got the opportunity to play the first friendly. Xaxa was in the starting line-up and played for 28 minutes before being substituted by Daya Devi. However, Daya Devi was replaced by Jabamani Tudu in the 57th minute.

Forwards: Renu, Karishma Purushottam Shirvoikar, Sandhiya Ranganathan, Sumati Kumari, Heigrujam Daya Devi. Head coach: Maymol Rocky.
